Physical warm up usually finishes with skill rehearsal, which means practising the techniques used in the game. Netballers would perform passing drills and shooting or rebounding drills while tennis players hit specific shots and serve repeatedly. The illustration shows the three primary components of an effective warm up. A warm up prepares the body for physical activity in the following ways:.
The preparation you do before your workout will influence your performance level and how you feel during that workout. Sufficiently preparing the body for any type of exercise will reduce strain on your muscles and decrease the risk of injury. A thorough warm up will increase blood flow to your muscles, supplying them with oxygen for the workout, and will raise muscle temperature for optimal flexibility and efficiency. Slowly increasing your heart rate also helps to reduce stress on your cardiovascular system.
The rise in muscle temperature improves flexibility and increases the efficiency of movement during your workout. To raise body temperature, a warm up should include exercises that slowly increase the heart rate to circulate the blood around the body to the muscles and joints.
Some examples: brisk walking, cycling at a low intensity, or body weight movements such as high knee marches, squats, straight arm and leg kicks, arm circles, knee hugs, or any movement that is low impact and dynamic in nature.
Mobility in the body is the ability to move a joint through its full, functional range of motion ROM. This is not the same as flexibility, which is the lengthening of a muscle. Mobility training is the process of improving the mobility of a single joint, or multiple joints, using controlled movements.
What we do at Delos is get rid of this rigidity with direct, precise pressure at all angles of a muscle to force the tight fibers to stretch apart. As the fibers stretch apart, the muscle becomes more pliable and usable. When muscles are pliable, a person can perform at any age and fitness level with the same capacity and energy as when they were children.
